Use potions to solve a concrete constraint
Map flexibility is most valuable when the island blocks a specific high-value connection. Before using a potion, name the problem it solves: missing legal space, incompatible terrain, a broken trigger path or an important reward choice. If the board already has several workable routes, preserving the tool may be stronger.
Do not use a map-changing effect only because it is available. Compare the new opportunity with the remaining run length and the buildings you can realistically place. A theoretical perfect tile has no value if the necessary follow-up never appears.
Historical Demo effects
Demo v9 notes described three broad effects: gaining a chosen building blueprint, allowing the next building to be placed anywhere, and increasing the rarity of the next reward.
